Wednesday Prayer Meetin'

My blogging friend over at Significant Source has decided to start a mid-week prayer meetin' on her blog! The idea is that every Wednesday anyone that visits her blog, and wants, can leave prayer requests on her comments page. Then she, her husband and kids, as well as other readers of her blog will pray! I know it's late but you really should head on over to the prayer meetin'! You can click on the button to the right.

I left my prayer requests but I'd like to add some Praise right here! Praise God for a child that does not qualify for services through Child Find! Confused? Why are we celebrating the fact that she doesn't qualify for something? Doesn't that mean she will miss out on something?

When we realized that Wei Kang Tong was our Claire, there were many unknowns for us. Included in those was the fact that her records lacked significant information about her cognitive, social and physical development up to that point. In short, we really had no idea what we would find when we got to her! On May 12th we were handed a little girl that was non-verbal for four weeks, that moved so slowly that two nurses were certain she had hydrocephalus, that refused to attach to a female (ME!) and that was scared of her own shadow....and just about everything else including animals, dolls, water, noises, movements, sitting in chairs and strollers...the list is long. But, she had a twinkle in her eye that said she just needed time! In the last 4 months, 3 weeks and 5 days, she has learned to speak in complete sentences and can tell you a 4 or 5 sentence story about things that happened! She knows all the colors in her box of crayons and the shapes, animals and vehicles on her puzzles. She can name the parts of her body and sings the Wheels on the Bus every time she sees one! There is so much more, too much to list. Yes, her little body bares the scars of a major birth defect and she will always have medical needs that will be monitored. But, She can do almost everything my other children could at 3 years old....except walk, run and jump.

At today's evaluation with Child Find, a state service provided through the school system for children that need special education, Claire blew them away! Six women sat around a table with their jaws in their laps as our little Claire showed them what she is made of! Claire's cognitive, speech, and fine motor development is on target and she impressed the speech pathologist, the school psychologist, the special education teacher, the preschool lead teacher, the physical therapist and the occupational therapist. She does not qualify for special education classes, speech therapy or occupational therapy because she exceeded every one's expectations-The doctor's that referred her two months ago and the teachers that waited for her to come, for they fully expected her to qualify for everything! They could not stop telling me how phenomenal it was for her to have progressed so quickly. So, we are praising God that she does not qualify! I'm telling you, God gave this child a determination you won't see in most kids! And you, my friends, have lifted her up in prayer, so that we could celebrate this moment! Thank you and praise Him from whom all blessings flow!

We went back to Meme and Papa's for some more walking practice and today she decided she wanted to run!

(don't forget to turn off the music)
