Like most families, we have a handful of Christmas Traditions. We always put our tree up the weekend after Thanksgiving....except for this year, when we put it up early! We never take our tree down before January 6th....except for one year when we had a live tree that was d-e-a-d, dead by Christmas day and we had to throw it out the day after! We always have an Advent wreath on the table...except for the year that I couldn't find it- I never did find it and had to make a new one the next year! We always go to church on Christmas Eve....except for the years that we go to my parent's Christmas Eve party. We never open any gifts on Christmas Eve....except for the one year Lizzie talked us into it!
Okay, so maybe we have a lot of traditions with exceptions! But, without exception, my mother-in-law makes a gingerbread house with my children every year. It started....well, I can't remember when it started! But, it used to be cookie baking back when Lizzie was little and it evolved into the gingerbread house one year when Meme saw one of those box kits and decided that it looked like fun! My kids look forward to this tradition every year....mostly because it involves a lot, I mean A LOT of candy, of which they eat more than they put on the house!
Well, last night was the night! Paul and I escaped for some Christmas shopping sans kiddos and Meme and Papa babysat hosted them for the annual candy eating spree gingerbread house create-a-thon! Fun was had by all!
I left the the camera with the kids.....unfortunately they were too busy feasting on candy decorating the house to remember to take many pictures. This is the only picture that shows Parker. There are none of Noah and only two of Isabel!
This being Claire's first time, the kids did make sure to get lots of pictures of her! As you can see, she enjoyed it immensely!
TA DA! The finished "House of Sugar Overload"! Please note that Noah's teeth are GREEN. Hmmmmm I wonder! Yes, this thing comes home with us, and the children do actually eat off it.....for a few days, then I toss it! Ahh, you gotta love traditions!
And when all that Christmas creating and candy eating is done....
you crash in Papa's lap!

Ha ha...looks like they ALL had a terrific time. We made ours on Friday night and they've eaten it already. It wasn't too...ummm...pretty. It was fun, though!
LOVE the family Christmas picture!
